If not, you'll e playing catch up, which could get expensive. The timing belt being replaced is a major maintence concern with any model 1.8t or v6. 1.8ts are know to have sludge issues. Continually use of synthetic motor oil with regular oil changes helps the cause. I have a 1.8t wagon with 114k. I love my car.
I have a problem with the auto transmission on my 1992 VW Passat 1.9tdi. When on an incline it will not reverse - ie it will go in reverse on the level but not on an incline. Transmission oil levels are correct. Can you advise what we should be checking for. My very experienced garage owning brother in law mechanic unable to pinpoint.

So, my new (to me) 2005 Passat is having an issue with the transmission: scanned it with my ross-tech, here's the code: 17125 - Torque Converter Clutch. P0741 - 003 - Stuck OFF / No Power being transferred. I've searched the TDI forums, searched Ross-tech Also 99% of the time if your tiptronic isn't working and the Gears dont show up once you activated tiptronic then its most likely your magnets under the gear shifter. I did this to my 99 passat 1.8t AEB. #1. To start off you must remove the 8mm bolt that is attached to the center counsil near the seats. There is one bolt on each side the

2004 Passat TDI. * Engine type: BHW. * Transmission: GMR (5 speed automatic/triptronic ) never changed tranny fluid. *241K Miles. I am the original owner. Car was in mechanical good shape, Recently (over the last year) had new tires, brakes and calipers, and most recently all new tie-rods and new right trans-axle (CV) No. IMHO, at 200,000 miles, if you're going to have the transmission out, it should be completely rebuilt. That means clutches, bands, seals, etc. Probably a new torque converter while you're at it. If you were doing the work yourself, to solve a problem, you might consider just repairing a problem in the valve body. Otherwise not. Have 2005 TDI with 276,000 miles. Used trans put in about 50K ago, not sure mileage of that or torque converter. Transmission light this summer on and off several times. On the road 50K a year and had checked out at independent shop, they were not sure but thought a solenoid. 600 miles home and noticed running 600-700 higher RPM. 8MKE.
