I was really torn, I won't lie. A brand new Shadow Phantom 750 runs around $8k. I put $500 down, and am paying about $200/mo until it's paid off. As far as what I think, I had been told to start on a really small, used bike; sell it back in six months when I'm ready for something bigger, and then get what I want.

Was highly considering a Shadow, since I've heard great things about them, and I know that at least Honda's cars are the AK-47's of automobile reliability and durability. Are Shadows a good starter bike for someone that just wants to cruise, and learn about basic motorcycle repair in the process?

Battery negative > starter motor mounting bolt /. Solenoid wiring is -. Two red wires I connected to Y/R (ignition wire) and a solid R (goes up to ignition as well) The green wire went to G/R wire>Clutch switch>To handlebars. The blue wire went to the two R/W wires that go to the 6P connector > regulator/rectifier. LoganTW08$ Discussion starter bike 1 is a 03 Honda Shadow 750, bike 2 is a 07 Shadow 750. I’m a pretty big guy at 6 foot 270 pounds. Is the 750 a good bike

I have been looking for a starter bike and found a 1996 Honda Shadow Ace 1100 - 19K miles - for $2500. Its a pretty sweet looking bike but I was wondering if it would be a good starter bike. I am 6 foot 200 lbs. Would love anyones/everyones input. Thanks. Here is the bike:

158. Like you Dude, I am a Yamaha man when it comes to bikes, but the virago, is not a great bike. Like was said before the starter is crap and causes all kinds of bad electrical issues. Stick with the Honda. If you are looking for a cruiser the Honda Shadow is a great model and the prices now are cheap for everything. Schattenreiter. First off the lights dimming when you hit the start button is normal. It is wired so current flows to the lights until you press the start button. This diverts most of the battery power to the starter for a quicker start. The start/ switch is problem area on Hondas. Here is a link to some info that might help.
The idea with a small, powerless bike is that the bike itself can't get the rider into trouble. A heavy 1100 is not an ideal beginner bike by a long shot. It's survivable, but it's still not recommended. A light 250 is better. But not everyone prioritizes these things that way, and to each his own.
That is correct. The manual will first list TOTAL tank capacity (3.7 gallons) and the list reserve capacity (0.95) which is a portion of your total tank capacity. Which leaves you with the 2.75 gallons as your main fuel supply. When you hit reserve, it is time to find a gas station soon. You're right.
