Yes, it will work fine, I have used windows Xp for minecraft for over a year now, no issues. I just got a new Windows 8 laptop which is a major improvement, with the specs. Win8 is pretty horrible for games. But considering most high-end gaming pcs now, (that you buy, not make), come with it. So grats I guess.
